South Yorkshire is an inland county to the south of the M62 in the Yorkshire and Humber region of England. The county has borders with five other counties ? North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

The city of Sheffield is the largest settlement in the county, followed by Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley. Sheffield is synonymous with steel production and is where many of the techniques for modern steel production where invented. It is also renowned for turning stainless steel into cutlery.

Doncaster, about 20 miles to the east of Sheffield, is a hub of the national rail network and now has its own international airport.
